Mert Wiechman, PE

President and Principal

Mert Wiechman, President and Principal with SDG, has over 40 years of experience in structural design and project management. Mert has been the structural project manager on numerous commercial buildings, water and wastewater treatment plants, tanks, drainage and floodway improvements, roadway and pedestrian bridges, and investigative and rehabilitation projects.

During Mert’s many decades of service he has developed an extensive background in the design and detailing of both civil and architectural projects. He has also gained invaluable knowledge and experience investigating distressed structures and providing rehabilitation measures leading to unique and creative structural solutions and problem solving.

It is Mert’s core belief that higher quality, better performance and longer life expectancies can be incorporated into any project structural solution.

Gene Schaefer, PE, PMP

Associate Principal

Gene Schaefer, an Associate Principal with SDG, has 40 years of experience in structural design and project management. Gene is also certified as a Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute and has a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering – Structural Emphasis and is registered as a Professional Engineer in 5 states, including Colorado.

He has been the structural project manager on tanks, water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, roadway and pedestrian bridges, drainage and floodway structures, buildings, and investigative and rehabilitation projects.

In addition to possessing the experience necessary to take on the responsibility for structural design, Gene has a unique understanding of the soil and hydraulic forces acting on civil structures and has the ability to evaluate the soil-structure interaction with the geotechnical engineer, and the hydraulic effects on the structure with the hydraulic engineer.
